Ashmore Little Athletics Centre competition days are held on Saturday afternoons. Athletes compete in a rotation of events and aim to improve their time, height or distance each week.
Competition generally begins from around 12:45pm with warm-up and announcements, with events starting shortly after.
Sessions usually run for approximately two hours, depending on numbers, weather and the event program.

Athletes usually compete in five events each Saturday, including sprints, hurdles, long distance, walks, jumps and throws.
The focus is on participation, effort and improvement. Athletes are encouraged to improve their own results each week.
Each competition day includes a mix of track and field events. The exact program may vary depending on the weekly roster, age groups, weather and Centre requirements.
Athletes move through events with their age group and participate in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Short running events focused on speed and technique.
Athletes practise rhythm, confidence and safe hurdling technique.
Longer running events help athletes build pacing and endurance.
Race walking events help athletes learn correct walking technique.
Jumping events may include long jump, high jump or other age-appropriate jumps.
Throwing events may include shot put, discus, javelin or other age-appropriate throws.
Athletes take part in a group warm-up before competition begins.

It is compulsory for all athletes to be accompanied by an adult during competition days. Athletes must remain at the Brian Johnston Athletics Track during competition and training sessions.
Ashmore Little Athletics relies on parent and family support each week.
To enable the smooth running of competition days, parents and family members are required to assist with weekly duties.
Families are asked to support positive behaviour so that Ashmore Little Athletics remains safe and enjoyable for all athletes.
Some rules and procedures are in place to help Centre competition days run smoothly and safely for all athletes and families.
Families should follow Centre announcements and check communication channels for updates, especially when weather may affect competition.
Under 6 athletes compete at Centre level only and do not compete at Regional or State level competitions.
If competition cannot be held due to weather, a decision is usually made and communicated to families by approximately 12:00pm.
In mild weather, a modified wet weather program of three events may be run.

All athletes are expected to participate in the group warm-up before competition begins.
A group warm-up is conducted before the start of Centre competition days to prepare athletes for their events.
The warm-up helps teach athletes how to prepare their bodies and develop the habit of warming up before events.
Older athletes are encouraged to take part, as their involvement has a positive effect on younger athletes.
Centre recorders maintain master recording sheets that list each athlete’s individual performances for Centre competition days.
